Esoterica

I thought I'd made up this word on-the-fly in a text message to describe something about myself or the things I do. Turns out it's also a "very cool band from London." C'est la vie.

I frequently have to make up words for these things mainly because a) the English language can't possibly account for all of this that is the world (especially of fashion) and b) sometimes I think words sound better when made over with "Tamlish." (Tamara+English. Gotta love those portmonteaus!) For example neuroses v. neurotica. The onomatopoeiatic factor of neurotica just kills!

I decided to catapult myself into the overflowing pit of fashion bloggers because I was inspired. I don't want to copy anyone, or pull anyone into a fashion cult, or start bad trends (goodness knows there are enough out there). I think I am intrigued by fashion because it involves this whole domino-like process of spilling aesthetic esoterica (for lack of a better term) out into the masses. It's like this bizarre kind of influence that infiltrates people without them even knowing - like some sort of osmosis. I haul fashion magazines from apartment to house to apartment (I've moved 8 times since leaving home for college at 18) because of this fascination, because it feeds my imagination and creative outlets.

I admittedly do tend to buy into the genius fashion marketing that encompasses fashion magazines - probably because it's largely these crazily original thinkers, artists, photographers, designers, writers, stylists and passionate enthusiasts with these insane levels of creativity that think of all of it. There's a reason why Anna Wintour is revered. Vogue is one of the only things I feel like has not sold out and thus has not lost its romance. Because the minute you're catering to everyone, you lose that charm, because that charm is not meant to be understood by the masses.

It's esoterica
